Spring 2023 Program

Thank you for your interest in our Spring semester! Please read ALL info before planning to register.

Our Fall show will be High School Musical Jr. This production offers a fun musical score, an entertaining plot line, and an opportunity for both veteran actors and newcomers to break the status quo, and “Bop to the Top!”. The performance will take place May 5-7 at the Bayou Black Recreation Center. The show is open to ages 7 to 15.

Staff

SoLa is excited to welcome Mason Clark as the Director for the Spring semester. Mason has a degree in Theatre Performance from LSU. He has been working both on and off stage with various theatre companies for over a decade. Outside of acting and directing, Mason also serves as the Managing Artistic Director for Thibodaux Playhouse. Mason directed High School Musical Jr. in 2018 with a 40+ person cast, and he has also starred in this production.

The Assistant Director/Musical Director for the Spring is Kyle Davis. Kyle is a Junior at Nicholls State University, where he is pursuing a degree in Vocal Music Education. Kyle has been heavily involved with Thibodaux Playhouse since 2015, and has served on the Board of Directors since the 59th season. Kyle has extensive acting experience with several companies. Kyle also assisted SoLa during the Fall 2022 semester.

Mason and Kyle are no strangers to children’s theatre. They got their beginnings in the Thibodaux Playhouse Junior program and have gone on to assistant direct/oversee several of their children’s shows and workshops. Their love and passion for children’s theatre runs deep, and they are ready for yet another exciting adventure!

Melinda Adams, the President of Thibodaux Playhouse, will also be joining Mason and Kyle’s team, as their Production Assistant this semester. Melinda directs for Thibodaux Playhouse and is an actress as well.

Program setup/schedule

The Spring semester practices will occur on every Wednesday from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and every other Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Students will be expected to attend ALL scheduled practices. Please register only if your child is available for both every Wednesday and every other Saturday practices, and for the entire allotted timeframe. Practices will begin the Wednesday after auditions on January 28th  and will continue until performance week. Practices will follow the school calendar. No practices during holiday weeks.

Most of the Wednesday practices will be scheduled at the Municipal Auditorium, except for a couple practices, which will take place at the Southland Mall. We have not confirmed the exact space within the mall just yet. This info will be given at the parent meeting. The space will be private, and will not accessible to the public during practice. The students will not be permitted to leave the space at the mall during practice.

This semester will be set up differently, compared to some prior semesters. Not every cast member will be called at every rehearsal. This will depend on their role in the show. This is to ensure that everyone’s time is respected and valued. Depending on what character your child is cast as, there could be consecutive practices that they are not scheduled to be at. Some practices will be with the full cast. We understand that this arrangement will not work for everyone. Please consider this carefully when deciding if this is the right semester for you. A schedule for each role/group will be given out after auditions.

The parent meeting will take place on Saturday, January 14th. Further info regarding the parent meeting will be emailed to parents of registered students. Our Director will be present to discuss auditions and the Spring semester further.

Please email solacenterarts@gmail.com with any questions about the Spring semester.

Registration to open on Sunday, January 8th at 6:00 p.m. via Event Brite. Space is limited. You will be required to pay a registration fee of 35.00 at the time of registration. A tuition of 200.00 must be paid by the time of the parent meeting, in order for your child to receive a script.
